Although their teams did not win, Dana Dunbar of Chadron and Aaron Alcorn of Crawford were the leading scorers for their teams during the Panhandle Prep all-star basketball games played in Scottsbluff on Saturday night.

Dunbar scored 17 points and Alcorn poured in 24. Both were members of the Green teams.

The Orange teams won both games. The girls’ game score was 108-81 and the boys’ contest ended 116-105.

The Orange girls jumped out to a 34-18 first period lead, were outscored 41-35 during the middle quarters, but outgunned the Green 39-22 in the fourth frame.

Payje Misegadis of Creek Valley led the Orange with 20 points, followed closely by Jori Peters of Mitchell with 19. Kelli Horstman of Hemingford added 13. Peters was named the game’s outstanding player. She’ll continue her hoops career at Chadron State beginning this fall.

While Dunbar’s 17 points paced the Green, Hannah Biesecker of Kimball added 12 and Brittney Newkirk of Bridgeport 11. Emma Roberts of Hay Springs contributed seven.

Dunbar did much of her scoring in the second half, when he sank a 3-pointer, drove for several layups and converted her missed free throw into a field goal.

Alcorn’s 24 points led all scorers in the boys’ game. Jared Nelson of Gordon-Rushville tallied 19, Eric Stevens of Bridgeport 17 and Korby Campbell of Gordon-Rushville 14. Alcorn also won the slam dunk contest.

The winning Orange team, which outscored the Green 34-20 in the final frame, put five players in double digits. Devin Buderus of Scottsbluff had 20; Jon Smith, Sidney, 18; Joziah Palomo, Gering, 16; Dylan Lower, Mitchell, 11; and Tyler Pszanka, Gering, 10.

Coy Bila and Jeff Cerny of Chadron also played on the winning Orange team and scored nine and six points, respectively.

Palomo was tabbed the game’s MVP.
