HOT SPRINGS – The Hot Springs Knowledge Bowl season recently wrapped up for students, following four competitions held in the Black Hills during September and October.

Coached by Hot Springs faculty members Simon and Sarah Jamieson, the Hot Springs team competes in the Southern Hills division, which also includes the Rapid City public schools, Hill City, Custer, Rapid City Christian and Hot Springs.

“During a competition, there are four oral rounds and one written round,” Coach Sarah Jamieson said. “Questions related to any topic are fair game in those rounds. Each round consists of 60 questions. Students have 10 seconds to answer most questions. Twenty seconds are allowed for math questions.”

This was Hot Springs’ third complete season, Sarah said. “Both the Middle School team and High School team will be in a rebuilding phase next year as the High School team loses four seniors and the Middle School loses four 8th graders.”

Jamieson added that there is a regional competition, but neither team finished well enough this year to qualify for regions.
