Marlene Ann Kirchgasler

RAPID CITY-Our wonderful, sweet, loving mother, grandmother and friend, Marlene Kirchgasler, 82, passed from this world into the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, July 7, 2018.

Marlene was born on April 25, 1936 and raised in Columbia, SD.  She met Gerald (Jerry) Kirchgasler of Aberdeen, SD while in high school and married him in San Antonio, TX on July 24, 1954.  Jerry had enlisted in the Air Force and during his service to this country they lived in Rapid City, SD, Morocco Africa and Glasgow, MT.

Marlene and Jerry were married for 45 years and together they raised seven children and on adopted granddaughter.

Marlene was a “go-getter” and a mover and shaker and a hard worker who enjoyed serving other people.  Over the years she was a waitress, bartender, cook and most recently a hostess for Taco John.  She had retired from her last position for about two week, got bored and returned until her full retirement at the age of 80.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, her five siblings, her daughter Paula and her granddaughter, Emily Rose.

She is survived by her children, June, Mike, Mark, Keith, Arthur and Brenda, and her adopted granddaughter, Christy.  She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, her great grandchildren and her great-great grandchildren.

The family wishes to send special thank-you’s to their mom’s dearest friends; Anna and Ruby of Columbia, SD and Harriett, Dugan, Carlos and Cindy of Rapid City, SD.  She loved you all and valued your love and friendship.  We apologize if we have forgotten anyone.

Our mother was a loving, warm and compassionate person and if your ever met her you knew by her greeting of “Glad to know you” that she truly was interested in knowing you.  She never said what she didn’t truly mean.

Memorial services for Marlene will be Friday, September 28, 2018 at Kirk Funeral Home at 10:30 am.  Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery following a luncheon.

Friends may sign her online guestbook at Kirk Funeral Home’s website.
