HOT SPRINGS-The Shells of Time reunited in Hot Springs for a benefit concert during homecoming weekend. The event took place at the Mueller Civic Center the evening of Saturday, September 22, directly after the Hot Springs Bison Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Banquet.
The band was formed around 1967 by Hot Springs High School students and persisted until the mid 1970s. Founding members Rich Schuttler and Mike English performed onstage alongside their past band-mates, including percussionist Joe Meyer, Randy Crain on keyboard, guitarist Brian Wheeler and Craig Katt on drums.
The Shells of Time played all sorts of crowd pleasing songs from the 60s and 70s, prompting many audience members to get up and dance.
The last time they played together was 2015 when the Shells were inducted into the South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They had less than a week to rehearse together for the reunion concert, but based on the crowd's engagement, that was more than enough time.
Tickets to the event served as a fundraiser for the Bison Athletic Hall of Fame. There was also t-shirts for sale along with other merchandise being sold for fundraising.
Both Schuttler and English were also inducted into the Bison Athletic Hall of Fame as freshman members of the undefeated 1967 Hot Springs Football Team.
