Head Coach Tanna White speaks with her team during a timeout earlier this season against Chadron. The Hot Springs Bison basketball teams are a combined 2-10 this season, but plenty of games remain.

A tough season for the Hot Springs’ boys’ and girls’ basketball teams has continued into 2018 with only one combined win in four games so far.

The lone win came via the Bison girls, who defeated Bennett County 46-41 Thursday, but fell to Spearfish 48-16 a day later in a game that saw a stifling Spartans defense hold the Bison to only four points in the first half.

The Bison boys came up short in both their games since the new year, first on Tuesday when they were defeated by Douglas 76-63, then by Spearfish on Friday 84-75.

Junior Logan Barndt continued to be a bright spot for the Bison, scoring 21 points and adding 8 rebounds against Douglas.

Senior Logan Gooder nearly hit the 20-point mark, scoring 17 and adding nine rebounds.

Gooder put up 17 points again on Friday to lead the Bison against the Spartans, with junior Thane Lockhart nearly matching at 16 points, and a third Bison, junior Matt Norton, also breaking into double-digits with 15 points.

Spearfish was led in scoring by Brady Greger and Tayven Aga who had 25 and 22 points respectively.

Hot Springs out-rebounded Spearfish by 14 despite the loss. Gooder had 10 of the Bison’s 44 total rebounds, while fellow junior Kelton Harris had nine, and Morgan Harkless had seven.

Both the Bison boys and girls will return to action this week against Edgemont in the opening rounds of the annual West River Tournament, with the girls playing on Tuesday, and the boys on Thursday. Second round games will be played January 12th, with championship games played on the 13th.

The Edgemont boys were winless this season ahead of Monday night’s game in Guernsey, Wyoming, however results of that game were not available at time of publication.

The Mogul girls go into Tuesday’s game with the Bison 1-6 on the season with their lone win having come last Thursday against Crawford, Nebraska.
