SPEARFISH | Workers are still putting final finishing touches on the new Knecht Home Center, even as early season snow fell this week, but the newly-expanded store is ready to celebrate its grand opening this weekend.
The home center, which also includes Ace Hardware, is located at 2905 4th Ave., not far from the old location just south of the new Interstate 90 Exit 14 interchange in east Spearfish.
Construction on the 7-acre, 74,000 square-foot center began in September of 2017 and features covered storage, an expanded showroom and retail center, a drive-through lumberyard and, coming next spring, a garden center.
All the additional space has allowed Knecht’s to add 10 more employees along with expanded lines of hardware, from nuts and bolts, housewares, lighting, vanities and kitchen cabinets, according to store manager Brian Dodge.
“We’ve added several thousand items, just about every department we hit hard with new items,” he said.
The employee-owned store, part of the Mead Lumber Company with locations across Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming, celebrated its opening with a ribbon-cutting earlier this week.
The celebration continues with special sales this weekend, Dodge said.
Hours of operation have also expanded with the opening of the new home center, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
