Did you know Rapid City Public Library offers online classes? You can access more than 500 courses on a range of topics and complete them at your own pace, receiving feedback and grades on your work from instructors. Upon successfully finishing the course, you’ll receive a completion certificate. Depending on your objective, you have much to gain besides knowledge — new or advanced skills, Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and a competitive resume.
While there are too many to list, there’s something for everyone who wants to invest the time to further their education and training. Here are some ways Universal Class can benefit you:
Do you need the skills to start a small business? You could begin by taking Drafting a Business Plan as well as An Introduction to Business Management. It’s necessary these days to have a website, but many new business owners can’t afford to hire someone to create it — so learn how to do it yourself. Choose your platform and take a class in Dreamweaver, Adobe Muse or WordPress and have your information digitally available to your customers. You can also dabble in marketing classes with Business Branding and Internet Marketing Basics. There are also classes in accounting, bookkeeping (QuickBooks) and payroll management.
If you get that interview, take a class on interview skills, legal terminology or medical terminology and impress the hiring committee. Do you need to conquer the fear of public speaking? There’s a class covering effective presentations.
If you need accredited CEUs but your employer’s training budget is limited, Universal Class offers .5 – 3.5 CEUs. There’s a variety of topics, but some that might interest the non-profit worker are classes in grant writing and fundraising. If you’re in a human services field, classes on autism, elderly advocacy, bullying and anger management might be useful CEUs.
Maybe you’re content in your career and want to learn something that will unleash your creative genius. Improve your home with classes in interior design, feng shui, landscaping, gardening or even floral design. You can educate yourself in candle and soap making as well as aromatherapy.
There are multiple classes in the culinary arts. Just to name a few, there’s cookie baking, cake decorating and pie baking. Try your hand at Italian cooking, bread baking and TexMex cooking.
