Moms of the Black Hills will have plenty of options to spend the day this Mother's Day on Sunday, May 14. Here is a look at some interesting options:

Mother's Day Express

The 1880 Train will offer a special train ride for the day with the Mother's Day Express on Sunday.

"This has been going on for probably 10 years," said Holli Edwards, business development manager for the attraction. "We switch it up every year to make it a little different."

This year will offer the traditional 1880 Train ride through Hill City and Keystone with a special, locally made cupcake from Star Spangled Batter. Riders will also receive a bottled water, a coupon for a gift shop purchase and live entertainment by local teenage musician and vocalist Tiffany Johnson.

"We thought she would be a good fit because she's young and very talented, and a good way to celebrate that special day for moms would be with a younger musician performing," Edwards said.

Edwards added, "It's something unique to do for the holiday, and a great way for families to spend time together and enjoy the outdoors at the same time."

Purchase tickets at Passengers must arrive in advance to check in with ticket agent and pick up tickets in the Hill City Depot. Tickets are listed under the last name given at the time reservation was made. All sales are final. All seating is reserved.

Mother's Day Brunch

Those in the mood for a little Mother's Day Brunch have several options this year, including at Minerva's popular brunch, but also a unique serving at The Homestead at Prairie Berry Winery on Sunday.

Tickets include a brunch menu featuring specialty french toast, soup and salad, hearty entrees and a dessert bar, as well as one complimentary drink ticket per guest. Additional glasses of Prairie Berry Winery wines, Miner Brewing Company craft beer, and mimosas will also be available.

"It'll be set up in a station style so guests can help themselves," said Colby Smith, senior events associate. "Some of the specialty items are things you won't see everywhere."

One entree includes baked ham and egg cups.

"Our chef, Jen Schmoll, really likes to get creative," Smith said. "And our desserts include balsamic marinated strawberries, mascarpone whip, and a raspberry rhubarb crisp, which is a fun tie into our winery's Red Ass Rhubarb."

Tickets can be purchased at or in the Tasting Room. A full refund will be offered if they are notified of your cancellation more than 48 hours in advance.

Muffins and Mimosas

Firehouse Wine Cellars, meanwhile, will offer its own unique event with Mom's Muffins and Mimosas.

"We wanted to do something a little different," said Michelle Pawelski, general manager. "We have three different sparkling wines: the traditional sparkling Brut wine, a peach, and a pomegranate. They all go really well with orange juice or on their own."

The Firehouse will offer 10 percent off sparkling wines all day, and for $10 attendees will receive two mimosas, a Colonial House muffin and fruits.

"I think we have a fun little atmosphere at the winery, and it's really relaxed," Pawelski said. "I think it'll be a fun, unique experience."

Tickets can be purchased at the door.
