First Peoples Fund Community Spirit Award exhibition featuring the work of Susan "Tweet" Burdick, Delia Cook, Ronald Paquin and Sadie Buck on display in the Sioux Indian Museum Gallery through December. · Senior harp recital by Morgan Black and Extraordinarily Talented Friends will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 at First United Methodist Church, 629 Kansas City St., Rapid City. The event is free.

· The Black Hills Symphony Orchestra will be in concert at 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, New Year's Eve, at The Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The third concert of the season is titled: "Celebrate! American Style. Enjoy spending the evening listening to the complex classical jazz, lush ballads and folk tunes of the Jeni Fleming Acoustic Trio. Elegant string arrangements of jazz standards and audience favorites , along with holiday tunes. Call the civic center for tickets at 394-4111.

· Putnam, Connor, Pospisil & Bristow will perform a benefit concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Belle Fourche Community Center. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling 892-3418.

· Black Hills Chamber Music Society presents The Summit Chamber Players. The University of Wyoming faculty feature violist James Przygocki, the Wyoming String Quartet, and mezzo-soprano Katrina Zook.

· The Oak Ridge Boys are in concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center arena. Tickets are $35 for reserved seating and $50 for golden circle seats. Tickets can be purchased online at www.gotmine.com or at the box office or by calling 394-4111.

Nostalgia series

· The Friends of the Devereaux Library at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology announce the 13th Annual Nostalgia Film Series.

The annual event features 10 classic films which are shown on consecutive Sunday evenings at Elks Theatre. This year's series, "The Star of Something Big" is comprised of films that were so popular that each of them inspired a sequel. The 2007 series begins on Sunday, Jan. 14. Season tickets are $30 for all 10 films and are available at Bag Ladies, 517 6th St.; Elks Theatre, 512 6th St. and the Devereaux Library on the Mines campus. Call Devereaux Library at 394-1262.

· Jan. 14 - "Notorious" starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman;

· Feb. 25 - "Double Indemnity," starring Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray;

· March 4 - "East of Eden," starring James Dean;

· March 11 - "To Sir, With Love," starring Sidney Poitier;

· March 18 - "Harvey," starring Jimmy Stewart.

BHCT fund raiser

· Tickets for the Black Hills Community Theatre's 15th Annual Fund raising Dinner Theatre are now on sale. The comedy, "Don't Dress For Dinner," by Marc Camoletti and adapted by Robin Hawdon, will be performed Jan. 19-21 at Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn. Tickets are $65 per person or $600 for a table of 10. The ticket price includes a $20 tax deductible contribution to BHCT. Call 394-1787 or go to www.bhct.org.

New Years Ball

· The Matthews Opera House, 614-1/2 Main Street, Spearfish, will continue its celebration of 100 years with the Centennial Ball beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, at the opera house. Music for the evening will feature the Big Band sound of "The Happy Wanderers." Admission is $30 per couple or $15 each which includes drinks, hors d'oeuvres and New Year's party favors. Tickets are now on sale and can be bought at the box office at 642-7973 Ext. 7.


· The Journey Museum, 222 New York St., Rapid City, will be closed Christmas Day and the first two weeks of January for maintenance and cleaning. On Saturday, Jan. 21, the Journey will host a Family Fun Day "For the Birds." Projects will be related to feeding and observing bird friends. Participants will get a take-home packet. The event is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $3 which includes admission to the museum. Call 394-6923.


· Black Hills Community Theatre presents Robert Harling's "Steel Magnolias" Feb. 2-18. This play alternates between funny and touching to deeply revealing strength and purposefulness in character. Reservations will be taken beginning Jan. 25. for season ticket holders, and Jan. 27 for the general public. Call 394-1786.

· The Rapid City Concert Association presents "The Church Basement Ladies" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Theater. This delightful musical comedy celebrates the women who work so hard and with such dedication in the church kitchen. The show is aimed at all of the ladies whose toil and time form one of the pillars of their churches. The cast includes four women, the pastory of a small country church and the organist/pianist.

Slide show

· Bruce Junek and Tass Thacker will thrill audiences with another of their amazing round-the-world cycling trip slide shows. The show highlights their trip through Egypt, Jordan, Greece and Turkey, following the path of early civilizations across three continents -- Africa, Europe and Asia. Junek says it will be a treat for the whole family. Showings will be 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13.

New Year's Eve Party

· Borders will host a kid-friendly traditional New Year's Eve bash for kids ages 3 to 8 from 11 a.m. to noon today, Sunday, Dec. 31. Call Borders at 394-5334.


· Black Hills Community Theatre's Education and Outreach will hold auditions for the Cherry Street Players for young people ages 9-17 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday Jan. 8 and Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the Arts Resource Center, 1202 E. St. Francis St., Rapid City. Call Mikal at 394-2250.

Book signing

· Everybody's Bookstore, 3321 W. Main St., Rapid City, is hosting a book signing with local author Lori G. Armstrong from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30. Armstrong's new book is titled Hallowed Ground.
