YANKTON -- The city of Yankton has gotten approval from Nebraska to draw water from wells on the Nebraska side of the Missouri River.
South Dakota environmental officials also have given the city final approval to move ahead with the wells.
Reduced flows from the Missouri River and water-quality issues prompted Yankton to begin looking for different water sources a couple of years ago.
The city plans to begin construction on the $2.4 million project this spring. Federal stimulus money is paying part of the cost.
