Jerome “Jerry” Wright, the alderman for Ward 3 on the Rapid City Council, will not seek re-election in this summer’s city council elections.
In a written statement to the Mayor, fellow council members and the press on Sunday, Wright said he was making the announcement “to allow others considering their candidacy for this position, a clear position on my part.”

“I encourage all considering running for public office to do so and to have the betterment of the community as their goal,” Wright said in the statement.
Wright has represented Ward 3 in the city council since July 2011, and served as council President in 2013 and 2014.
