The 2016 Rural Music CD of the Year sponsored by the National Traditional Country Music Association this year goes to the duo of Harland Allen of Sturgis and Kim Bachman of Belle Fourche.

The Rural Roots Music Commission will present the duo their "Rural Music CD of the Year" award at their national convention in Le Mars, Iowa, Aug. 29-Sept. 4, at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds

The folk-style acoustic duo entitled 'Aces & Eights' recorded their album entitled simply "Aces & Eights" that the commission found had superb traditional sounds they considered to be authentic old-time or rural in nature.

Harland plays guitar and sings harmony, and Kim plays mandolin and sings lead.

Sometimes Kim inserts the sound of an old-time mountain style banjo. Both artists bring their music together in much the same style as the original Carter Family did, or perhaps the Everly Brothers who found their original taste of fame in Iowa.

Aces & Eights will be on the main stage at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3 to receive their award. They will also perform on the secondary stages throughout the weekend.

They have a website at www.acesandeightsmusic.com which provides information into the music they write, record, and perform.
