STURGIS- Iris Oriole Taylor, 95, Sturgis, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care in Sturgis.
Iris was born Jan. 31, 1919, in Niobrara, NE, to Henry and Alice Mae (Richards) Lackmann. The family moved to Belle Fourche, where Iris graduated from high school in 1937. She was united in marriage to Robert Louis Taylor on Dec. 30, 1929, in Sundance, WY. Three children were born to this union.
Iris started her employment as a clerk at the JC Penney store in Belle Fourche during WWII. She continued working as a clerk until she retired from the Red Cross Drugstore in Sisseton when she was 75.
Iris "Grandma T" moved to Sturgis in 1994 to be closer to family where she enjoyed babysitting great-grandchildren and others. In her spare time, she enjoyed walking and reading.
Iris is survived by her son, Steve (Linda) Taylor, Broken Arrow, OK; daughters, Sharon Stewart, Sturgis, and Dixie Labrake, Gainsville, VA; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren, with another due in November.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, and 6 brothers.
Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. Burial followed at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorials are to the Berry Unit of Sturgis Regional Senior Care, for the excellent care they gave Iris during her 7 years as a resident. To all of her "LOVE" girls/ladies, her family says "Thank You" for your care.
