The Chadron State College softball team is due to open its home schedule this weekend by hosting New Mexico Highlands. Double-headers at slated for both Saturday and Sunday, starting at noon and 11 a.m., respectively.

The Eagles began their conference schedule on Sunday at Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction and lost 6-0 and 11-1 on Sunday. No information on what occurred Monday when two more games were on tap was available prior to the Record’s press deadline.

Mesa’s McKenzie Surface hurled a no-hitter and struck out 14 in the first game while building her record in the circle to 7-0.

The Eagles’ only run in the second game came on a homer by Kayla Michel in the fourth inning.

With the losses, the youthful Chadron State team fell to 2-10. Mesa was 12-0 following its sweep.

The Highlands Cowgirls were 2-9 at last report.
