First Interstate makes donations to local groups

  • Updated

Since 1995, First Interstate Bank in Sturgis has hosted The Festival of Trees. The bank's lobby is graced with dozens of Christmas trees, wreaths, and other holiday decorations.

All of the decorations were auctioned the evening of Nov. 21, 2014, raising more than $40,000 for local charities.

The money was split between the FIB Greater Sturgis Area Fund and Northern Hills Hospice. The groups will split $38,900.

Funds from ticket sales helped the Sturgis Kiwanis Food Bank and Feeding South Dakota. The two groups will split $7,502. The funds which go to Feeding South Dakota help the backpack program in the Sturgis area. Through the program, students are given backpacks filled with food they take home with them over the weekend.

Checks were presented to agencies Monday at the bank.
