More than 600 people attended the Family Engagement Night held at Sturgis Elementary on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
The engagement nights are held as a way of building family-school partnerships and of promoting family involvement with math.
The event featured a fish game with real fish, a balloon maker, face painting, cake walk, and many other math learning games. There also were estimation tables with various items. All Sturgis Elementary students and families were encouraged to attend the free annual Family Night. McDonald's donated cookies. Hot dogs and chips were served as well. Pet Smart donated real fish for the fish game. First Grade Intervention Teacher Janis Anderson said they had many high school helpers who were a part of the event. All children received candy or prizes from each game. They also registered to have a chance to win a big door prize.
