A Rapid City man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to accusations that he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home, assaulted her, held her against her will and later tried to bribe police into releasing him.
Jerrod White Face, 28, is facing felony charges of first-degree kidnapping (domestic abuse), first-degree burglary (domestic abuse) and bribery of a public officer, as well as misdemeanor charges of simple assault (domestic abuse) and interference with emergency communication.
Authorities say that early morning on April 28, White Face kicked in the back door to Mary White Eyes’ residence in Rapid City and hit her multiple times. He prevented her from calling 911, ordered her to go inside the bedroom and threatened to harm her and their two children, according to police reports filed in court.
When officers arrested White Face later that morning — after being contacted by White Eyes’ mother — he reportedly offered them $5,000 to let him go. Defense attorney Alecia Fuller pointed out in a hearing Tuesday his intoxication level at that time.
White Face is detained at the Pennington County Jail on a $10,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled to return to court July 10.
