A Rapid City man who admitted beating a 1-year-old girl last year has been sentenced to 180 days in jail and six years of probation, according to court records.

Robert Arguello, 40, had pleaded guilty to abusing the child, who was taken to the hospital with bruises and swelling all over her face and body, Pennington County court documents state. Arguello turned himself in to authorities a day after the April 2016 incident, in which he was originally charged with aggravated child abuse.

Circuit Judge Heidi Linngren, of the 7th Circuit Court, sentenced Arguello on Aug. 30 also to a suspended 10 years in prison. He is detained at the Pennington County Jail and could be eligible for work release and electronic monitoring after serving 90 days. The court ordered him not to have any unsupervised contact with minors.
