Ranch rodeo participants perform a number of real-world ranch duties under the pressure of a timer, creating a fan-favorite event at the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo Rapid City.

Black Hills area residents and ranchers might see some faces they recognize in the rodeo ring today and tomorrow as the ranch rodeos take center stage at the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo Rapid City.

The ranch rodeos are a fan-favorite because they feature talented teams of rodeo participants who perform many real-world tasks, just as they do on their working ranches, but under the watchful eyes of the crowd and under the pressure of a timer.

Some participants are professional rodeo riders, but a good number are area ranchers who are highly skilled in their fields and love to compete for pride and payouts.

The Rodeo Rapid City Ranch Rodeo has preliminary events at 10 a.m. in the Barnett Arena at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, with finals at 7:30 p.m. The Central States Fair hosts its own ranch rodeo on Tuesday.
