Noreen Inez Petty
July 12, 1940 - August 26, 2009
HOT SPRINGS - Noreen Inez Petty, 69, passed away at her daughter's home in Omaha, Neb., after a nearly 2-year, courageous battle against cancer.
Noreen was born July 12, 1940, in Rapid City, S.D., to Kenneth and Leone Pitts. The family moved to Hot Springs when she was 6 to run Kenny's Bakery. She married David G. Eldridge, MD, April 4, 1960. To this union three children were born, Melodie, Melani "Sam", and Nicolette. Noreen was widowed in 1978 but was fortunate to have a second chance at love with Paul Jean Petty. They were married July 5, 1980, blending families that had been friends for years.
Noreen believed in serving the Lord by helping others. She was on the Hot Springs and South Dakota Boards of Education for many years; the Board of the Black Hills Special Services, and Mammoth Site board. Noreen was president of the Fall River 4-H Leaders Association, and then served as secretary to the State Leaders Association. She was a 4-H Leader for over 20 years and enjoyed working with the young people. She worked with Extension and was a member of the Angostura Homesteaders for many years, until Extension Clubs ceased.
She is a member of Kiwanis, the Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee, and a board member of Fall River Health Services, her special passion.
She was active in her church in Smithwick and was a Certified Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church. Prior to her illness she was actively working on the Extension-sponsored program called Horizons. While in Omaha she was an active member of Christ's Family Church.
She served as director of Hot Springs Housing Authority for more than 20 years, until her retirement in 2005.
Noreen is survived by her daughters, Melodie (Bruce) Lichty of Brookings, S.D.; Melani (Don) Greer, Omaha, Neb.; Nicollette (Dan) Deschamp, Mission, British Columbia, Canada; Linda (Mike) Richter, Townsend, Mont.; Lesta (Tom) Conger, Buffalo Gap, S.D.; a nephew whom she thought of as a son, Jim (Sheryl) Birdsall, Hot Springs, S.D.; two brothers, Merle (Jerri) Pitts of Aurora, Colo., and Kenny (Zoha) Pitts of Fremont, Calif.; many nieces and nephews, 17 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.
A memorial has been established for the Hot Springs Kiwanis Dental Bus, which provides free dental services to underprivileged youth in Hot Springs. Contributions can be made c/o Melodie Lichty, 28056 Recreation Road, Hot Springs, SD 57747.
Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 31, 6 p.m. at McColley's Chapels of the Hills in Hot Springs.
The celebration of her life will be held at the United Churches, Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Dr. J. Edwin Coates and Pastor Morris Nelson officiating.
Lunch will be served at the United Churches following the service. Burial at Horsehead Cemetery will take place after lunch, at approximately 1 p.m.

Rita E. Fallis
FORT THOMPSON - Rita E. Fallis, 75, Fort Thompson, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Survivors include 10 children, Jill Fallis, Roxanne Sazue, Jeri Fallis, Marilyn Fallis, Jeff Fallis Sr., Darlene Jones, Alvin Fallis, Donovan Fallis, LeRoy Cook, and Donnie Pruess; a sister, Alfreda, Sioux Falls; a brother, Buddy Colombe, Eagle Butte; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Stanley, preceded her in death.
Wake services will be at 7 p.m. CDT Monday, Aug. 31, and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Diamond Willow Ministry in Fort Thompson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the ministry. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Stephan.

Tracy Scott Fisher
SPEARFISH - Tracy Scott Fisher, 43, Spearfish, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his partner, Joseph Farrell, Spearfish; his parents, Sherman and Heidi Fisher, Miami, Okla., and Shirley Cox, Las Vegas; and four siblings, Larry Fisher and Jody Fisher, both of Miami, Okla., Gail Wood, Sumpter, S.C., and Geri Sortore, Tulsa, Okla.
His body was cremated. There will be no services.

Donald M. Johnson
RAPID CITY - Donald M. Johnson, 84, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at home.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Johnson, Rapid City; four children, Claudia Cravens, Cottonwood, Minn., Tom Johnson, Custer, and Mary Jackson and Pat Seas, both of Rapid City; a sister, Dorothy Buck, Thief River Falls, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
His body was cremated.
A Christian wake service will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at the church, with the Rev. Andrzej Wyrostek presiding.
Burial with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Gladys Redlin Meyer
SPEARFISH - Gladys Redlin Meyer, 87, Spearfish, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Montgomery, Gillette, Wyo., and Gwen Hufford, Anchorage, Alaska; two sons, Gary Meyer, Sturgis, and Randy Meyer, Van Nuys, Calif.; two brothers, Earl Redlin, Ellendale, N.D., and Wallace Redlin, Watertown; a sister, Luella Leonard, Watertown; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City, and for one hour before services at the church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Douglas Free officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

STURGIS - Robert Chester Oban, 57, Sturgis, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at home.
Survivors include his father, Kenneth Oban, Spearfish; a brother, Randy Oban, Spearfish; and a sister, Sherri Baker, Belle Fourche.
