A crew of about a dozen workers plants trees in April 2019 in an area of the southern Black Hills that was burned by the 130-square-mile Jasper Fire in 2000. The seedlings planted by the workers started as pine cones that were cut from trees in 2015. The cones were then transported to a nursery in Nebraska, where seeds were extracted from the cones to be grown into seedlings. (Photos by Adam Fondren/Rapid City Journal)
