Rapid City Police on Sunday arrested a man after he reportedly took a handgun-shooting stance with what was later identified as a cellphone in his hands.
Officers were checking on a report of an intoxicated man lying on the ground in the area of Main Street and East Boulevard around 5:45 a.m., Sunday when Michael Guerue, 26, of Rapid City, approached them.
Officers drew their guns and took cover when Guerue pulled a black object from his pocket in the same manner someone would draw a pistol from a holster, according to a Rapid City Police Department news release. The suspect ignored their first warning to drop the object in his hand.
When officers realized that what Guerue was holding did not have a barrel, they ordered him to the ground.
Guerue was arrested on suspicion of obstructing law enforcement and two counts of simple assault on law enforcement. As of Monday, he was being held without bond in the Pennington County Jail.
