An insanity defense is on the table for a man charged in the murder of Jessica Rehfeld, the 7th Circuit Court heard Tuesday.
Randy Connelly, a lawyer for defendant Richard Hirth, said his team was waiting for Hirth’s military records to help determine whether his client is mentally competent to stand trial. While going through pre-trial motions with Judge Heidi Linngren, Connelly mentioned the voluminous evidence defense lawyers needed to review, including 37,000 pages of Facebook material.

Hirth appeared in court with Jonathon Klinetobe, who is accused of masterminding his ex-girlfriend’s killing in 2015. Former co-defendant David Schneider pleaded guilty to first-degree murder last week. Two other men charged with being criminal accessories have also pleaded guilty.
