The Albert and Laverne Elliott First Responders Fund at the Black Hills Area Community Foundation has been established to provide immediate relief to the family of a Sturgis first responder who died in the line of duty.
The fund’s initial gift of $20,000 from the Sturgis couple will be presented Monday to Shawn Fischer, widow of Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief David Fischer, who died Sept. 7 while responding to a house fire in Tilford.
The presentation will take place at the Sturgis City Council meeting at the Erskine Building, 1300 Sherman St., in Sturgis. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., with the presentation set for approximately 6:30 p.m.
Anyone who wishes to contribute to the Albert and Laverne Elliott First Responders Fund can do so by calling the Black Hills Area Community Foundation office at 718-0112.
