Suspect in stabbing arrested

  • Updated

Rapid City Police Friday on night arrested a 20-year-old Chamberlain man after a stabbing at a motel on East North Street.

According to a police news release, an officer who stopped a vehicle speeding on East Boulevard discovered a stabbing victim in the back seat. While the victim was taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital with potentially life-threatening wounds, others in the vehicle said the stabbing occurred at the Colonial Motel, 511 East North St.

Police found fresh blood in front of one of the rooms and followed the blood trail to 402 E. Adams St., where they found Mato Wells, of Chamberlain, who "had fresh blood on his person," the release said.

Wells was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.
