Weekly volunteer opportunities through the Helpline Center include:
- Volunteers of America is collecting unique and fun bowls for their third annual Soup for a Cause fundraiser. VOA needs to collect 300 bowls for the event, which is Nov. 1 at the Central States Fairgrounds. Bowls may be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 111 New York St.
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Black Hills is seeking volunteers for its Mother Mentor Program, which matches experienced mothers/fathers with new or expectant mothers/fathers. Volunteers undergo a background check and orientation. Must be 18 or older to volunteer; schedule is flexible.
- Regional Hospital Volunteer Services is seeking volunteers to provide comfort with non-therapeutic hand massages to patients and family members following guidelines. All volunteers must complete on-boarding requirements and specialized training. Must be 18 and older to volunteer. Volunteers are need on Tuesday afternoons, Thursday mornings, and Friday mornings and afternoons.
- Senior Companions of South Dakota seeks volunteers for its in-home assistance and respite care to the elderly and disabled in more than 50 communities across South Dakota. It allows low-income, healthy volunteers an opportunity to provide companionship and in-home assistance to those who need help to live independently. Senior Companion volunteers can volunteer in a variety of ways from light housekeeping, transportation, cooking and being a friend. Volunteers will receive an hourly stipend, mileage reimbursement, meal allowances and other benefits. Volunteers must meet required income guidelines, be willing to serving 15 hours or more per week, and be age 55 or older.
