Loved Journal's well-reported editorial
Thank you so much for your accurate, fair and thoughtful editorial appearing in your Sunday edition regarding the Kooiker censure.
We are relatively newcomers to the area and we chose to move to Rapid City, in part, because we perceived a more rational and civilized life here than elsewhere in the country.
We read your paper daily and when we started reading about the Kooiker matter we could not understand what was going on. We had no point of view or reference but we wondered why anyone would send 1,000 pages of emails? Usually emailers are brief and succinct communicators. And why would anyone be upset because revealed waste was not $30K, but $3K or $5K?
Isn't waste, waste and that container full looked like a lot more than $3K in printed matter, especially to one who has ordered and paid for a lot of printing.
And why would any of these issues rise to the level of a censure?
So, we went to the "Censure Hearing" and were appalled at what we saw and heard, all of which was extremely well reported in your editorial. This "legal proceeding" made us think of what the Salem Witch Trials and the McCarthy Hearings may have been like.
