Don't sell (or give away) ourselves down the river

Excellent letter by Michael Petersen on Aug. 21 on uranium mining. This letter needs to be published in all South Dakota newspapers and copies should be mailed to all the regulators who will make the decision.

The people who are in favor of Powertech are all planning on making a lot of money.

The water belongs to all of us (South Dakota and surrounding states) and we are all responsible for taking care of our environment, Powertech wants all of us to just give them our share.

How greedy is that? We should not give away our water and we should not sell our water.

Powertech does not offer to buy the water because we know that even an insane amount of money is not enough. Powertech hopes we will want to be nice to them and we will be stupid enough to give them what they want.

Rapid City columnist Michael Sanborn said "those legislators who weakened our environmental laws should be voted out of office." I say if they plan to vote in favor of uranium mining, they should sign an agreement to accept personal financial responsibility. Put their personal money where their vote is.
