RAPID CITY | Douglas Keith Hewitt, 52, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Rapid City Regional Hospice House after losing his courageous battle with cancer.
He was born August 15, 1965, in Orange City, Iowa, to Henry and Rose Hewitt. He graduated in 1984 from Washington High School in Sioux Falls. He later moved to Rapid City with his parents. He was employed by Simon Road Construction for several years.
Doug enjoyed watching and going to Nascar races and spending time in the barn and around the horses. He was a true outdoorsman with a great sense of humor.
Survivors include a grandson, his daughter, Madison Hewitt, and three sons, Scott Tippmann, Michael and Carter Hewitt, all of Rapid City; four sisters, Lenora (Norie) McCollum of Rapid City, Karen Hewitt of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Tami Hewitt (Bass) and Brett of Rapid City, and Jami Hewitt of Rapid City; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his lifelong best friend, Kirk Mears from Sioux Falls.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ashley Hunter, and his parents, Henry and Rose Hewitt.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Pine Lawn Memorial Park Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
