SPEARFISH | Betty Ruth Holmes, 98, of Spearfish, South Dakota, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018.
Betty Ruth Rowland was born to Mary and R.B. Rowland in Sheridan, Wyoming, July 18, 1919. Betty was the oldest of twelve brothers and sisters. At the age of 18 Betty married Jack Holmes. Betty and Jack started their married life together working for the Rice Ranch in Sheridan, Wyoming. Betty and Jack soon moved to Miles City, Montana, where they built and ran the Spudnut Donut Shop, Jack’s Husky Truck Stop and Café and the Sunset Drive-Inn Theatre. In 1982 they retired and built their dream home in Hamilton, Montana. Shortly after Jack’s death, December 25, 2001, Betty moved to Missoula, Montana. She moved to Spearfish, South Dakota, in 2007 where she resided until the time of her death.
Throughout Betty’s life she worked extremely hard for the couple’s businesses as well as balancing her life as a kind, attentive, loving mother and wife. Betty was a colorful and vibrant woman, always approachable and advocating support for family, friends and neighbors. Betty consistently had a kind word to say for whomever she knew and encountered. No matter the endeavor, Betty never ceased to show zest, passion and positive enthusiasm in her life. Betty was loved and treasured by her family and her spirit and memory will continue to be an inspiration forever for those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her son Gary Holmes (Jan), daughter’s Vicki Holmes Micheletto (Rich) and Jacki Holmes (Mike Moore), granddaughter Ashlee Mitchell, grandson’s Jason Micheletto (Jill) and Anthony Gaglia (Brittany Mohr), five great grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Arthur Holmes, her mother Mary and father R.B. Rowland, granddaughter, Dr. Stacia Micheletto MD, three brothers and three sisters.
Cremation arrangements were under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
