Memorial postponed

To the editor,

It is hard to believe that on Sunday, May 31st it will have already been one year since the passing of Ray Hillenbrand. We here at Prairie Edge had planned a memorial feed and a "Wiping of Tears or a Setting the Spirit Free" ceremony for June 2nd. In light of the COVID 19 virus, we have postponed these events until September. We hope that you might take just a moment to remember a great friend to the community, it is just really hard to fathom that a year has already passed! We will get the word out when we have the new date available. We just cannot take the risk of putting elders at risk even for such an important event as this. We thank you for you kindness over the past year and look forward to seeing many of you in September. Until then, stay safe and stay happy!

Tribes have rights

To the editor,

South Dakota tribes want to protect themselves from Corona virus and Canadian oil spills. Why should they allow disease or oil spills on their land? How will they benefit from either? Stopping Canadian oil from using the tribes’ land is the tribes’ right. And checking travelers will help them trace possible sources if corona strikes their people.

Keep the country open

To the editor,

Men and women have sacrificed their lives to save our country in times of war for centuries. Now when it comes down to biological warfare, it's give up our country to save lives.

I would much rather give my life for our country from the virus than in a war with real bullets like so many of our brave countrymen have done to save America in all the past wars. If we have to shut down our country to save lives, then it is like giving up our arms. The enemy wins. What happened to American patriotism?

Let's keep America open so we can win the war on the economy and on our way of life.

Ivan Davignon, Rapid City
