Ali Nowotny, the St. Thomas More student who postponed brain surgery in order to compete in the state cheer and dance competitions, has been chosen to be featured on "The Real Winning Edge," a Fox television series featuring youths nationwide who are overcoming burdens to make a difference.

Ali Nowotny, a 17-year-old senior at St. Thomas More High School in Rapid City, will be undergoing a pair of surgeries this week at the Mayor Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Ali has a tumor in her left temporal lobe, the part of the brain connected to memory.

As Ali Nowotny prepared for her Dec. 19 brain surgery at Mayo Clinic, people from throughout the Black Hills stepped up to help. Her school, St. Thomas More, raised funds by selling Ali Tough T-shirts and taking donations.
