When the El Patron Mexican restaurant closed without warning last August, diners wondered what had happened to the popular downtown eatery known for huge burritos and homemade salsa. It took a call to the South Dakota Department of Health to find out.

Okhee McGrath said she managed two local restaurants for 20 years and never had a failing health inspection score, until one day this August when bad luck hit.
Some local restaurant owners welcome a system that would give diners easy access to their inspection reports, but others worry customers would overreact to violations.
