After scoring 20 first quarter points, Kimball/White Lake's offense fell flat in the Class 9AA state football championship game and fell to Bon Homme 35-20 in the DakotaDome.

After leading 20-0 at the end of the first quarter with a 53-yard rushing touchdown from Carter Frederickson, a 50-yard pass from Cody Westendorf to Javen Holan and a 8-yard pass from Justin Becker to Holan.

From there, Bon Homme took over, scoring 12 points in the second quarter when Joey Slama scored on a 31-yard run, and threw a 34-yard pass to Nate Scieszinski.

In the third quarter the Cavaliers scored 17 points, Slama scored on a 3-yard touchdown run, connected with Scieszinski again for a 56-yard touchdown and Joshua Crownover hit a 25-yard field goal to give Bon Homme a 29-20 lead.

Slama connected with Noah Heesch on a 6-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Slama finished 17-of-26 for 215 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also had 22 carries for 154 yards and two touchdowns. 

Kimball/White Lake finished the season 8-4 while Bon Homme finished 11-1.

Class 9A

CANISTOTA/FREEMAN 46, HOWARD 14: A big second quarter led Canistota/Freeman by Howard in the Class 9A state championship game at the DakotaDome.

Canistota/Freeman started the scoring with a Trey Ortman 9-yard touchdown pass to Braxdon Schmidt, Howard responded with a touchdown run from Zach Pardy from 5-yards out. Canistota/Freeman led 8-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Canistota/Freeman scored 16 points in the second quarter, Trey Ortman found Trace Ortman for a 50-yard passing touchdown and then Trey Ortman had a 6-yard touchdown run. Both touchdowns were followed with a 2-point conversion, and at halftime it led 24-6.

In the third Austin Thu scored a 18-yard touchdown run for Canistota/Freeman, and Howard responded with a 1-yard touchdown from Isaac Feldhaus. Canistota/Freeman led 32-14.

In the fourth Canistota/Freeman put the nail in the coffin with a 10-yard touchdown run from Bailey Sage and a 1-yard touchdown run from Isiah Robertson.

Canistota/Freeman finished the season 11-1 while Howard finished the season 8-4.

Class 11A

TEA AREA 39, DELL RAPIDS 7: The Titans scored the first 27 points and won the Class 11A state championship Thursday at the DakotaDome. 

Tea Area started with a 80-yard touchdown run from Carter Slykhuis and Wyatt Van Tol had a 1-yard touchdown run to lead 13-0 at the end of the first quarter. Van Tol scored another 1-yard touchdown run to make the score 20-0 at halftime.

In the third Hunter West connected with Trevor Cox for a 34-yard touchdown pass, and then Dell Rapids got on the board when Alex Kringen scored from 65-yards out.

The Titans got a 22-yard field goal from Kade Stearns to make it 30-7 at the end of the third quarter.

Tea Area secured the title with a safety to start the fourth quarter and a 35-yard touchdown pass from West to Slykhuis.

The Titans finish off their championship season with a 11-1 record while Dell Rapids finished 7-5.

Action continues from the DakotaDome with the Class 9B championship between Sully Buttes and Colome at 9 a.m. mountain time this morning.
