Rapid City Central softball finished the season Saturday with a 24-9 record and a third place finish in the Class A state tournament.

Central started the tournament Friday with a 3-2 win over Brandon Valley followed by a loss to eventual state champion Sioux Falls Roosevelt. In the double elimination tournament, the Cobblers started the day with a 11-6 win over rival Rapid City Stevens.

It followed that win with a 16-11 win over Harrisburg to set up a game with Sioux Falls Lincoln for a chance with a rematch for Roosevelt. The Cobblers fell to the Patriots 9-1, bouncing them from the tournament.

Stevens started the tournament with a 10-0 loss to Harrisburg Friday, followed by a 14-10 win over Brookings to extend its season. 

Staurday begun on a good note for the Raiders, with a 6-0 win over Sioux Falls O'Gorman before falling to Central for a seventh place season.

Stevens ended the season with a 20-13 record.

R.C. Christian, R.C. Central, cross country takes first in Philip

With only six points, the Rapid City Christian boys'' cross country team ran away with the team title at the Philip Invitational, while the Rapid City Central girls' took first Saturday.

Simeon Birnbaum took first for the Comet boys in 17 minutes, 11 seconds. Ethan Roberts from Christian was second while Levi Vanderbos was third.

On the girls' side, another Birnbaum took first for the Comets. Anna Birnbaum crossed the finish line first in 19:52. The Cobblers won the team title with 19 points, and was led by Gracin Larson who finished second.

Jolie Dugan from Jones County took third in the girls' field.
