The Rapid City Post 22 Hardhats opened the Gopher Classic on Friday with a 10-run win over Stillwater, Minnesota.
The Hardhats scored the game's final nine runs for the 14-4 victory.
Cooper Bowman and Holden both hit home runs for Post 22, Bowman's a three-run run shot in the seventh inning and Jackson' a solo shot in the fifth.
Post 22 led 5-4 after three innings, but broke away with three runs in the fourth, single runs in the fifth and sixth and four more runs in the seventh.
Bowman, Jackson and Matthew Hegre all had three hits for the Hardhats, with Bowman knocking in four runs, Jackson two and Hegre one. Jack Sorensen had two hits and three runs batted in.
Dylan Richey picked up the win on the mound, scattering five hits and four runs in six innings, striking out eight. Tad Scherbenske pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Post 22, 39-8, will face two opponents on Saturday, Chanhassen, Minnesota at 2:30 p.m. and Burnsville, Minnesota Cobras at 5 p.m.
Stars split in Gopher Classic
The Rapid City Post 320 Stars bounced back from a 10-2 loss to Excelsior, Minnesota Friday morning to open the Gopher Classic, stopping Duluth Lakeview 8-4.
Excelsior scored four runs in the bottom of the first and after Post 320 got on the board with two runs in the fifth, ended the game on the eight-run rule with a six-run fifth.
The Stars had five hits, with Zane Salley the lone RBI. Noah Simonson took the loss for the Stars, giving up five hits and six runs in four innings. Austin Lunde pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up three hits and four runs.
The Stars trailed 3-1 to Duluth Lakeview before scoring three times in the fifth and four more times in the seventh.
Ian Krump hit a solo home run in the seventh to give the Stars a 5-4 lead. He led the way with three hits and four RBI. Dawson Penticoff had two hits and Devin Jacobs knocked in two runs for the Stars.
Ren Svenson picked up the win in relief of Camden Nayman. Svenson pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, giving up two hits and no runs. Nayman gave up five hits and four runs in 4 1/3 innings.
Post 320, 27-15, will face New Ulm Gold at 1 p.m. today and Laurel, Montana at 3:30 p.m.
Expos fall twice at Gopher Classic
The Rapid City Post 22 Expos dropped a pair of games Friday to begin the Gopher Classic.
The Expos fell to the West Fargo Packers (North Dakota) 3-2 in the first game, before dropping a 13-3 decision to Bloomington Gold.
West Fargo scored what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the fifth after Post 22 tied the game in the top half of the inning.
Daniel Vigoren led the way for the Expos with two hits and one RBI, while True Synhorst also knocked in one run.
Isaac Arnold took the loss, giving up four hits and three runs in five innings, while Synhorst pitched a scoreless sixth.
Bloomington scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.
Troy Wilhelm and Brayden Burrus both knocked in one run for the Expos, 25-15, who will face Giant Valley today at 1 p.m.
Sodbusters get past Sasquatch
Hastings blew an early 5-0 lead, but rallied late for a 9-7 win over Spearfish Friday night in an Expedition League game at Black Hills Energy Stadium in Spearfish.
After the Sasquatch, 17-22, tied the game at 5-5 in the sixth inning, Hastings scored four straight runs before Spearfish tried to come back with two in the bottom of the ninth.
Anthony Rodriguez had two hits and three RBI for the Sasquatch, with Zach Solano and Griffin Teisher adding two hits each.
Shawn Barrowdale led Hastings, 18-25, with three hits and two RBI.
The two teams return to action tonight at 6:35 p.m.
