The Game Fish and Parks Department will be offering hunter safety courses throughout the state this summer to teach young prospective hunters the basics of firearm use, safety and the regulations required for hunting.

The course is designed for juveniles between the ages of 12 and 15, although adults are welcome to attend. State law requires everyone in that age range complete a HuntSAFE course in order to obtain a hunting license in South Dakota. The course is free of charge.

Each course will feature three sessions in a classroom that last about 3.5 hours apiece, as well as an outdoor shooting session at a gun range. A parent or legal guardian must register the student and sign an electronic parental release form.
