Wade Kreun of Rapid City took this nice buck in the Palmer Gulch area on Nov. 8, before the weather turned cold, he said.

Kreun was situated at bottom of a canyon surrounded by thick brush. His brother had missed an earlier shot at the deer, chasing him away.

Kreun had seen a smaller deer run by through a small opening in the brush earlier and knew bigger deer would have to pass through the area.

When he spotted this deer, he fired through the opening.

“With much surprise, he did a flip and was down,” Kreun said. “I haven’t been deer hunting since I was young. So it felt good to get out with family again.”
