Cowgirls with Dawes County ties definitely excelled in goat tying at the National High School Rodeo in mid-July at Rock Springs, Wyoming. Whitney native Hadley Thompson was the champion, Sophie Hruby, who has a Hemingford address but lives with her family in southern Dawes County, was the runner-up and Tatum Reid of Crawford finished in fourth place. There were more than 150 goat tiers in the competition.
Sisters Haiden (left) and Hadley Thompson were the all-around cowgirls at the National College and National High School Rodeos this summer. They are the daughters of Thorpe and Shelly Thompson of Yoder, Wyoming, formerly of Whitney. All of their grandparents live in Dawes County.
