After the Chadron High School girls had won just the third Class B-6 District Track and Field Meet championship in the program’s 55-year history by a hardy 18-point margin and also outscored long-time rivals such as Sidney, Gering and Scottsbluff all by at least 23 points, everybody knew Lady Cardinals were having a special season.

Hay Springs senior Parker Wellnitz wrapped up his high school track career by placing third in the Class D 3200 meters at the State Meet in Omaha with his all-time best mark of 10:09.64.
