With 88 cowboys and cowgirls from at least a half dozen counties in Nebraska and South Dakota entered, the competition was keen during the Youth Rodeo at the Dawes County Fair on Monday, July 27.
With 88 contestants from at least a half dozen counties signed up, not everyone could compete at the same time during the Youth Rodeo at the Dawes County Fair on Monday, July 27, even though at least three events were usually being contested. Therefore, patience was needed, but the young cowboys and cowgirls remained mounted and ready to go when their names were called.
Gracia Votruba of Hemingford was a strong contestant in the Intermediate Division of the Youth Rodeo at the Dawes County Fair. She and her sorrel horse were second in flag racing and fourth in both pole bending and barrel racing to earn the division’s reserve champion cowgirl honors.
Harper Ebmiller of Whitney was the all-around cowgirl in the Intermediate Division of the Youth Rodeo last week at the Dawes County Fair. Shown riding her bay mare, Faith, Harper won both the pole bending and barrel racing and also was third in flag racing.
Boys didn’t win many of the events during the Dawes County Fair’s Youth Rodeo on Monday, July 27, but Bryce Hoffman of Chadron was an exception. He and his dappled gray horse won the Intermediate Division’s flag race.
Shown competing in the barrel race, Ashley Feddersen of Rushville didn’t win that event at the Dawes County Fair last week, but she was first in the Intermediate Division’s goat tying competition.
