Chayton Bynes re-christened the Chadron State College track in dominant fashion, setting the school and facility records, becoming an NCAA provisional qualifier and taking the early lead in Division II with a triple-jump leap of 15.73 meters (51 feet, 7.25 inches) at the Con Marshall Early Bird Meet that the Eagles hosted on Friday, March 20.
Chadron State distance runners generally don’t place high in distance races because those are the events the Colorado schools in the RMAC dominate even nationally,  but freshman Kaden Boltz of Grand Island (left) and junior Blaine Johnson of Sheridan, Wyoming, placed first and second, respectively, in the 5000 meters on Saturday. There were eight entries in the race. Â
Chadron native November Diers won the women’s javelin for the Eagles at the CSC Early Bird Meet on Friday with a throw of 119 feet, 11 inches, more than 15 feet farther than last year’s best. There were 15 entries in the event.
This pair of young sprinters, sophomore Chris Cormier (left) of Sparks, Nevada, and freshman Ayden Hartzell of Evanston, Wyoming, are special. They placed first and second, respectively, in the 400 meters at the CSC Early Bird Meet on Friday and both ran on the Eagles’ 4x400 relay teams that placed second at the SDSU Classic and RMAC Meet during the indoor season.
Chayton Bynes improved his Chadron State record and also broke the CSC track facility record by triple jumping 15.73 meters, or 51 feet, 7 ½ inches, during the Early Bird Meet last Friday. In addition, his mark will qualify him for the DII National Outdoor Meet in mid-May.
