With spectacular scenery, fascinating historical sites and great live entertainment, autumn is the perfect time to visit Medora.
“We like to say there’s a reason in every season,” said Brock White, marketing director for the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation. “In the fall, it’s a little quieter and the pace is a little slower, so you can really take your time and enjoy your trip.”
Fall concerts at the Old Town Hall Theater are a highly anticipated local tradition. While the shows themselves vary from year to year, visitors can always count on high-quality entertainment — from Broadway-style productions to tribute bands and musical artists spanning a range of genres.
The 2026 Fall Favorites Concert Series showcases a trio of performances. The Waddington Brothers kicked things off in September, followed by the Everly Brothers Experience which just wrapped a lively two week run. Figuring It Out: Abello Acoustics Band concludes the season with two weeks of bluegrass music from Oct. 21 through Nov. 1. With more than 10 family members on stage and stringed instruments of nearly every kind, this Medora-favorite bluegrass band offers a performance that is as much about family tradition as it is about music.
“The fall shows are a nice way to get to see family-friendly entertainment up close in our Old Town Hall Theater,” White said.
Old Town Hall Theater
A Medora mainstay for more than a century, the intimate 220-seat theater boasts a history that has included hosting boxing matches and serving as an informal community center through the years. Today, the property is part of the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation’s collection of historic properties and has been fully renovated within the past decade.
Interested in seeing a show? A bundle package available through the end of October includes two tickets to Figuring It Out, an overnight stay at the new Hotel 1883 in Medora, and two admissions to the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library for $249.96.
“It’s a very affordable price for the value,” White said. “The presidential library is a world-class cultural institution. I think it’s had more than 140,000 visitors already since it officially opened on July 4, and the feedback has been nothing but positive.”
While you’re in town, White suggests hitting the trails to appreciate the full scope of Medora’s fall beauty. Keep your eyes peeled for bison, prairie dogs and wild horses on the 36-mile South Unit Scenic Drive at the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Or rent a bike to explore a few sections of the 144-mile Maah Daah Hey Trail, designated one of the top mountain biking trails in the United States by the International Mountain Biking Association. In Medora itself, the Point to Point Trails connect paths that run throughout the community.
“The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame is another place to visit where you can learn about the history of our ranching heritage,” White said.

For those who can’t make it to Medora this fall, the holidays provide more opportunities to schedule a visit around. A brand-new Medora Musical Christmas show at the Old Town Hall Theater is in the works for Dec. 3 through 20.
“It incorporates all the things people love most about our town — faith, family and freedom,” White said. “We’ll offer a Christmas brunch and another bundle package then as well.”
