Like most coaches, Chadron State College head football mentor Jay Long is an optimist. He often brags on his players, says they forever play hard, and always believes his team has a chance to win its next game — or at least never admits prior to kickoff that his Eagles are apt to falter.
It’s a tradition that the Chadron State College football players climb the tall and imposing hill behind the main campus following the final practice before classes begin. The photo was taken about noon on Saturday, Aug. 16 after the first 10 practices had been completed. A dozen more practices will follow before the Eagles open their season by playing the Northern Colorado Bears in Greeley, Colorado on Saturday, Aug. 30.
