Family, laughter and good food just go together. That’s the idea Bill and Sandy Beshara had in mind when in 1981 they bought the restaurant that is now Colonial House Restaurant and Bar in Rapid City, welcoming locals and visitors to come on in, take a load off and make themselves right at home.
Home is where the food is
Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines “home” as: a familiar or usual setting; a congenial environment. That is exactly what has made Colonial House a magnetic place for the Black Hills community. Parents can bring their children and enjoy a night off from cooking, people can come in for comfort food and a drink after a long work week, and families can get together at a place that feels like home. Serving delicious Midwest American cuisine with an inventive flair, Colonial House has something to put a smile on everyone’s face.
The family strives to put high-quality, fresh ingredients in every meal while providing a comfortable and homey establishment where everyone can relax and enjoy themselves. Many of their dishes, like their chicken noodle soup, are made from scratch with the freshest ingredients – even the noodles are homemade. From soups to salads, burgers to chicken fried steak, to pasta and even salmon, Colonial House offers something delicious for whatever mood you’re in. Plus, their appetizers and drinks are perfect for a late-night snack and nightcap.

Family-owned — always has been, always will be
The Colonial House was started by family, is still run by family and will be sustained by family for years to come. Bill and Sandy have passed their restaurant down to their son Kevin, who now owns the business and runs it along with his wife and children. Together, three generations of the Beshara family work to keep the restaurant and all its charm alive.
“Hard work keeps the dream alive. We never give up, we love what we do, and we work really hard at it,” said Max Beshara, Kevin’s son. “No matter how old I get it seems impossible not to want to have the pride of my parents. I know I’m personally proud that we’ve come this far and expect to take it much further. I’m proud that we get to show up every day and tackle the hard stuff, create new beginnings and do it all in a community as wonderful as the Black Hills. But nothing beats all that like doing it with your family, including your parents, and when you see them day in and out like I do, that pride feels pretty dang mutual.”
Not only is the Colonial House run by family, but the Beshara family wants all their guests to feel right at home with their family. “If our guests leave with just one single thing, it has to be the anticipation of returning again quickly because they felt well received, well cared for and of course well fed,” Beshara said.
